Preparing for Your Install Day

I’m sure most of these are obvious, but sometimes we’re just so excited we forget some of the details…

A few days before:

  • Notify gatekeepers/doorkeepers and book elevator and delivery parking

  • Remove anything near the exterior entry (potted plants, wreaths, etc.) and have a way to prop open the entry doors

  • Clear floors and walls of all paths/accessways to the space

  • Remove the existing furnishings from the space

  • Move any fragile (tv, speakers, etc.) or valuable (art, tchotchkes, etc.) items to another room

  • Allow ample space for them to lay out all their tools and equipment

  • Take advantage of the emptiness to easily wash floors, walls, and windows!

  • Shovel/salt/sand all driveways/walkways/steps - Safety First!

  • Gather tarps/old blankets for extra precious art/furnishings/floors (OHSA prohibits removing of boots, but they will have booties)

  • Collect anything that was delivered to you for this install (rug pads, window treatments, fixtures, hardware, etc.)

  • Collect anything else you might need for this install (scissors to cut pad, hardware, extensions cords, light bulbs, felt feet, rubber bumpers, etc.)

  • Bring in extra portable lighting if the lighting is inadequate - everyone needs to see details clearly

  • Cash for tipping - of course, this is your prerogative.  It’s just kind to recognize that your home is much nicer now because of their service!

  • Call to confirm the day and delivery window time and that they have your correct address/phone #

The day of:

  • Shovel/salt/sand all driveways/walkways/steps - Safety First!

  • Keep your phone on you in case they call

  • Secure your pets/kids

  • Set your thermostat at a cool and comfortable level as the installers are working really hard even though they may make it look easy ;-)

  • Guide them upon arrival to easy parking/unloading

  • Be available but give them ample space to do their work

  • Inspect carefully before approving items, as once you’ve signed, you’ve accepted the condition

  • Feel giddy like a kid during the holidays!!
